Tribute to Trans

When a CSU grad student accepted a job in China, Trans joined our family. He was three years old and we were blessed to have him five years. He brought such joy to our lives.

A unique name, history, and personality. When Tyson found him as a kitten, on the side of I-80 in Nebraska, he thought he was female. When it was determined he was male, he was named Trans (go figure). To us he was Trans, Transistor, Transito. He immediately warmed up to our 5 year old blue heeler, O.P. They became inseparable. Trans tried to be a dog and was indeed very dog like, but would show off by climbing trees like only cats can do. He walked on a leash (or off leash) right beside us. Man, woman, dog, cat – walking on the trails or going to the outdoor concerts.

We think he had a wonderful life. He was free to roam around outside during the day, learned to maneuver the doggy door, then spend overnight safely inside. He knew where home was and never wandered off.

He loved to hunt. Evening routine on the farm was to grab the gun, Trans scurry up the rabbit, Dad shoot the rabbit, O.P. retrieve the rabbit.

Although he spent most of his time outdoors (nice weather) he also loved sitting on someone’s lap, sitting on a window ledge, drinking water from a sink, tearing up the catnip box, and snuggling in bed with Mom.  Every evening he and O.P. would sit and wait for their bedtime snack. Then he would trot down the stairs to his bed.

He knew his role – control the varmints on premises, yet, was the most affectionate guy ever. Loved, loved, loved to be held. And hold him right under his arm pits and he would stretch full length!

He enjoyed riding in the car, climbing ladders, exploring the boat. He was adventurous and bold to the point of injury. He was friendly, curious, social, and aloof. When visitors would arrive he would say “hi,” then walk away, jump on (or into) their vehicle. Once he took ride on top of a visitor’s car.

He maintained his relationship with his original owner, Tyson. Whenever he was in Colorado, they visited.

Trans was a cat like none other. He will be remembered forever.
